Amazing Solar Powered Homes

One of the first things that I did when I moved into my new home was start looking into my options for solar power. I’m a big believer in reducing dependence on natural resources that are unsustainable, and one of the best ways to do that is by using natural resources that are sustainable, like sunlight. I was thrilled to have my own home that I could customize with solar power. I found that there were all kinds of options for solar power besides those big clunky solar panels. I eventually settled on solar shingles for my roof, and I’m looking into solar powered windows, too. I started this blog to share more information about solar trends with people who are as interested in sustainable energy as I am. I hope to help you understand how contractors can help with these large projects!

Planning A New Deck? Why Vinyl Is The Best Option

It's time to build a deck onto your home. The first thing you need to do is choose the construction material. If you've been thinking that wood is your only option, you need to think again. While wood may be the most common option for decks, it's not necessarily the best option. In fact, if you want to get the most enjoyment out of your deck, it's time to consider vinyl decking. The same material that provides you the best fencing options is also great for decks. Take a look at four benefits you'll enjoy when you choose vinyl for your new deck.

Choose From a Variety of Designs

If you want to a new deck for your home but you want a distinct appearance, you need to choose vinyl. One of the great things about vinyl is that it comes in a wide variety of designs and colors. Vinyl decking material is available in designs, such as hardwood, natural stone, or even brick. If you'd prefer to maintain the vinyl appearance, you can choose from an assortment of colors.

Avoid Harmful Chemicals

If you're still thinking about installing a wood deck, you need to consider toxicity. You might not realize this, but some wood decking materials are treated with harmful chemicals. Those chemicals can be passed on to the people who will be coming in contact with the wood. The chemicals can also be passed on to your pets, especially if they lick the surface of the wood — not to mention the fact that the chemicals will get absorbed into the soil whenever it rains. That's because the run-off from the deck will flow right into your gardens or lawn. Vinyl decks contain no harmful chemicals, which means they're safer for you, your family and pets, and the environment.

Protect Delicate Body Parts

If you and your family plan to spend time on your deck during the hot summer months, you need to think about heat absorption. Wood decks absorb quite a bit of heat, which means delicate body parts can get burned quickly. Luckily, you can avoid the burns by choosing vinyl for your new deck. Vinyl decking material is designed to stay cool to the touch.

Eliminate Problem Warping

If you're still leaning towards a wood deck, it's time to consider one specific weather-related problem — warping. If you choose wood, the risk of warping is going to increase. That's because wood tends to warp when it's exposed to extreme temperatures and moisture. You can eliminate the problems associated with warping by choosing vinyl for your new deck.
