Why Poured Concrete Steps Can Be A Good Idea In A Garage
When you're having a custom garage build, one of the last things on your mind might be the steps that will lead from the garage into your home. Instead, your focus might be on the flooring type, the wall color, and especially the enticing features that custom garages can often have. The steps might not be very exciting to you, but they're one of the few things in the garage that you'll use 100 percent of the time you're in this space. Wooden stairs are common, but here are some reasons that opting for poured concrete steps can be a better choice.
They're More Durable
There are lots of advantages to having wooden steps installed in your custom garage, but this type of structure will eventually wear out. The treads themselves can get worn down over time, but the nails and screws can also loosen, and the treads can soften if you live in a humid climate. If you plan to live in the home for a long time, there's a considerable chance that you'll need to repair or replace wooden steps in the future. This isn't the case with poured concrete steps, however. They're virtually indestructible, and provided that they're built properly, they should last indefinitely.
They're Quieter
If you go in and out of the garage a lot, which will likely be the case after the garage is finished, you want the steps to be quiet. Wooden steps can creak, which can be annoying each time that you use them. This may especially be a concern to you if you spend time in the garage in the evening when other members of the family are trying to sleep. This creaking can be loud, and if you live in a bungalow, it may be audible to people in their bedrooms. Poured concrete steps are completely quiet to use.
They Look Better
There are many people who favor the look of poured concrete steps to those made of wood. You probably will have a poured concrete floor in your custom garage, so having steps that are similar in appearance can serve as a visual continuation of the floor, in a sense. It's even possible to tint the concrete to better match the walls or other elements in the garage. While custom builders can definitely make nice wooden steps, you may find that those made of poured concrete simply look more appealing.
