Amazing Solar Powered Homes

One of the first things that I did when I moved into my new home was start looking into my options for solar power. I’m a big believer in reducing dependence on natural resources that are unsustainable, and one of the best ways to do that is by using natural resources that are sustainable, like sunlight. I was thrilled to have my own home that I could customize with solar power. I found that there were all kinds of options for solar power besides those big clunky solar panels. I eventually settled on solar shingles for my roof, and I’m looking into solar powered windows, too. I started this blog to share more information about solar trends with people who are as interested in sustainable energy as I am. I hope to help you understand how contractors can help with these large projects!

2 Reasons To Go With A Metal Roof

If it is time to replace your roof, you are probably thinking about all the different choices you have out there. You want to make sure that you get the right kind of roof for your house. One of the things that you might consider using is a metal roof. Most metal roofs are made out of aluminum or zinc, although you could go with a full copper roof or just add copper accents to your roof. If you want to have copper for your roof, you need to be aware that it is going to be rather expensive, so you will have to add that into any budget considerations. Copper will also eventually weather to green, so if you like the copper look, you will have to make sure that you have your roof taken care of regularly.

So, what are some reasons that you might want to go with a metal roof?

Energy Efficiency

One reason to go with a metal roof is that they tend to be pretty energy efficient. That's because you can get a roof that has been colored or coated so that it will help to reflect or absorb the sun, depending on where you live. That can help to keep your heating and cooling prices down. Another reason that they are energy efficient is that metal is pretty much endlessly recyclable, so you can make sure that your roof is made up out of many recycled materials as possible, and when you replace it, or you are replacing another metal roof, you can make sure that it goes to be recycled, keeping it out of the waste stream.

Long Lasting

Another reason for you to consider a metal roof is that they are long lasting. A metal roof, installed and maintained properly, can last for decades, which means that not only are you getting a roof that is going to last for a long time, you are also going to get a great return on your initial investment, which is always a good thing.

If you are going to replace your roof, for whatever reason, there are all kinds of choices out there for you to choose from. One of the choices you have is to go with a metal roof. There are a lot of benefits to go with a metal roof. Talk to a local roofing contractor, such as Liberty Exteriors LLC, to see if a metal roof is right for you.
