Amazing Solar Powered Homes

One of the first things that I did when I moved into my new home was start looking into my options for solar power. I’m a big believer in reducing dependence on natural resources that are unsustainable, and one of the best ways to do that is by using natural resources that are sustainable, like sunlight. I was thrilled to have my own home that I could customize with solar power. I found that there were all kinds of options for solar power besides those big clunky solar panels. I eventually settled on solar shingles for my roof, and I’m looking into solar powered windows, too. I started this blog to share more information about solar trends with people who are as interested in sustainable energy as I am. I hope to help you understand how contractors can help with these large projects!

Choosing Tempered Glass When Replacing Windows And Doors

Protecting your family against harm should be a top priority when investing in home improvements. Many homeowners overlook the important role that windows can play in home safety. Having the right kind of glass installed in your home's windows and doors can help you prevent a serious accident.

Tempered glass is the way to go when striving for maximum safety when you are replacing the glass in your home.

Tempered glass is made more durable through a special manufacturing process. Regular panes of glass are heated to extreme temperatures, then quenched using cold air. This heating and cooling process is repeated several times.

Through this special manufacturing process, a pane of glass becomes more brittle than it would normally be. This brittle quality is what allows the tempered glass to serve as a safety barrier within your home.

One of the hazards associated with the glass in your home is the threat of a broken window or door. A child or pet could fall into a pane of glass, you could slip in the tub and shatter a glass shower door, or a ball could hit your windows from outside and cause them to break.

A shattered window results in shards of glass with sharp edges that could cause serious injury. Because tempered glass is processed differently, it breaks into small pebbles rather than shattering when broken. The pebbles don't have sharp edges, preventing additional injury should a window or door be broken in your home.

Tempered glass can play a versatile role in your home. You can replace almost any pane of glass with a tempered glass product. You will still be able to enjoy the benefits of natural light streaming into your home, as well as the savings associated with energy efficient windows.

If you need more privacy, you can order a tempered glass pane that is frosted or etched to help make the glass more opaque. Tempered glass can be used to enhance your home's safety without compromising the qualities that you like about your existing windows.

Investing in tempered glass when replacing the windows or glass doors in your home can increase the safety and security of your residence. You will no longer have to worry about the potential dangers associated with a broken pane of glass, and you will be able to enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing your home is protected with durable glass products.
