Amazing Solar Powered Homes

One of the first things that I did when I moved into my new home was start looking into my options for solar power. I’m a big believer in reducing dependence on natural resources that are unsustainable, and one of the best ways to do that is by using natural resources that are sustainable, like sunlight. I was thrilled to have my own home that I could customize with solar power. I found that there were all kinds of options for solar power besides those big clunky solar panels. I eventually settled on solar shingles for my roof, and I’m looking into solar powered windows, too. I started this blog to share more information about solar trends with people who are as interested in sustainable energy as I am. I hope to help you understand how contractors can help with these large projects!

Improve Your Home's Entryway Safety And Security

Your home is the place you should go to feel love, peace, and most importantly, security. However, if you aren't taking the necessary steps to protect your home, you probably feel anything but secure. To boost the safety of your home, start by focusing on your front door entry area.

Update Your Security Screen Door

If your existing screen door barely locks or has small punctures in its mesh screen, it isn't really effective any more. The condition of the screen door determines just how much security it can offer you so you want to replace a worn or damaged door right away.

When looking for a replacement, ensure you are choosing an option with a wide frame design. The wider the frame, the more strength it has. It's also wise to select a door with a flush-mounting design. This option eliminates gaps around the door that intruders often use to stick apparatuses inside to break locks.

Tidy Up Landscaping

Landscaping is a great way to add character and style to the exterior of a home, but it can also be used to help intruders. Having tall, overgrown shrubs or bushes lining the front door area provides an intruder an easy place to hide and break into your home without being spotted by someone from the street.

It's best to install these growths several feet away from the door. If you already have them planted, make sure you are taking extra steps to keep them trimmed to make it harder for someone to stand behind them without being detected.

Enhance Light Placement

Make sure any lights you have installed around the front door are designed to illuminate the space and not cause unnecessary shadows. For example, if you have a recessed front door, placing bright lights too far away from the front door will actually darken the entryway and provide a place for someone to hide.

In this case, it's better to place lighting just above the door as well as on the side walls to brighten the space and prevent any shadows. It's also wise to set your entryway lights up on a timer so that the space is always bright even when you forget to turn on the lights.

Safety is not inherent, but instead achieved. As your house is the place that you and your family call home, make sure you are taking extra steps to keep your home safe. For more information, contact companies like Roys Screen Service.
