Amazing Solar Powered Homes

One of the first things that I did when I moved into my new home was start looking into my options for solar power. I’m a big believer in reducing dependence on natural resources that are unsustainable, and one of the best ways to do that is by using natural resources that are sustainable, like sunlight. I was thrilled to have my own home that I could customize with solar power. I found that there were all kinds of options for solar power besides those big clunky solar panels. I eventually settled on solar shingles for my roof, and I’m looking into solar powered windows, too. I started this blog to share more information about solar trends with people who are as interested in sustainable energy as I am. I hope to help you understand how contractors can help with these large projects!

Important Information For Water Well Owners

If you live in a remote place, you may have to utilize a water well. Use these tips to help your well last for years and stay in good condition:

Keep Water Well Clean

One of the most important steps you can take is keeping the water inside the well clean. Otherwise, contaminants and bacteria can end up getting you and your family sick. At all costs, make sure no chemicals, fertilizer, pesticides or motor oil end up in your well.

You can do this by building up the slope around your well so any of these contaminants disperse away from the well. The best way to build up the slope is to use fill dirt. This type of dirt is non-porous, and it won't be prone to creating empty pockets and breaking down over the years. You also need to make sure your well cover on top of the casting is in good condition. If there are holes or cracks, it needs to be replaced.

Set Up a Submersible Well Pump

There are going to be times when you need to extract water from the well. To make this process easy, you can set up a submersible well pump inside the well. Featuring a waterproof casing, these pumps won't get damaged once submerged in water.

A lot of these pumps have rubber bearings with a large surface, which help keep small particles like sand away from the bearings. Thanks to a suction-screen, you don't have to worry about debris clogging your pump. An electric engine lets these devices operate quietly and helps them pump out water quickly.

Test Water Regularly

In order to make sure your water is pure and free of bacteria, nitrate and other contaminants, you need to test the water regularly. This is especially true if your water has a change in taste, has an odor or the well has a history of bacterial contamination.

Grab a sample of water from the well, and seal it in a container. You can then send it off to a state-certified laboratory that works for the health department. These labs will test for many things, such as the pH, nitrate, TDS and other contaminants that could be harmful to your family. If the results are positive, you will then need to have all of the water pumped out and replaced.

If your property has a water well, it's critical to take these steps. They will help keep your well maintained or working at an optimal level for as long as possible. If necessary, work with a company like Modern Pump & Equipment for more help.
