Amazing Solar Powered Homes

One of the first things that I did when I moved into my new home was start looking into my options for solar power. I’m a big believer in reducing dependence on natural resources that are unsustainable, and one of the best ways to do that is by using natural resources that are sustainable, like sunlight. I was thrilled to have my own home that I could customize with solar power. I found that there were all kinds of options for solar power besides those big clunky solar panels. I eventually settled on solar shingles for my roof, and I’m looking into solar powered windows, too. I started this blog to share more information about solar trends with people who are as interested in sustainable energy as I am. I hope to help you understand how contractors can help with these large projects!

Thawing Plumbing Pipes: Why They Can Burst & The Cost Of An Emergency Plumber

Did you try to thaw out frozen plumbing pipes and it caused them to burst open? You need the help of a plumber fast because you can end up with water damage in your home as the ice begins to melt. In this article, learn why thawing plumbing pipes the wrong way can lead to them bursting open and how much an emergency repair by a plumber will cost.

Why Can Thawing Plumbing Pipes the Wrong Way Cause Them to Burst?

The main reason plumbing pipe burst when getting thawed out is due to pressure created by the melted ice. The pipes must be warmed up in a way that will allow melted water to make its way out of the faucet rather than getting trapped in the pipes. To accomplish the task, you should always begin thawing a frozen pipe by first warming up the faucet. You can then continue working away from the faucet towards the pipes as water begins to come out.

If you have access to hot water, it can be used to thaw out the frozen pipes. However, you can use an alternative method like warming the metal faucet and pipes up with a hairdryer if all of the faucets are too frozen to release hot water. If your methods of thawing are unsuccessful, leave the task to an emergency plumber. He or she can also replace the busted pipes for you.

How Much Does Emergency Repairs to Busted Plumbing Pipes Cost?

The cost for an emergency plumber to repair busted pipes will depend on how easy it is to access them. The easier the pipes are to access, the less money you will have to spend on the repair. You can expect to pay an average of $300-$1,500 for a plumber to make repairs in a timely manner.

It's in your best interest to get the pipes repaired no matter how much money you have to spend. Failure to make repairs can lead to your home suffering water damage, such as mold, mildew and damaged flooring materials. You will then be stuck with even more repairs to get done.

As soon as you notice that water is slowly dripping out of the faucets during cold weather, it is a clear sign that the pipes are frozen. Hire an emergency plumber to thaw the pipes out or make repairs before the problem becomes larger that it is!
